Welcome to Kiwi Log - the musings of a displaced Kiwi experiencing the many delights of London, can't wait for the 'black snot'! I make no apologies to anyone that doesn't get the 'in jokes' - you should have gotten to know me better when you had the chance.

World Cup Obversation

There is an old adage that an owner begins to take on the characteristics of their pets. Well, here is Brazilian World Cup hero Ronaldinho:

And his dogs...

Uncanny!

I'm sorry to be blunt, but...

The Kahui family, and particularly, their awful "family spokesperson" Ani Hawke can get fucked. Pure and simple.

11 out of 12 adults in 'the house' recieving welfare from 'the system' - but they 'don't need the justice system', they 'have their own'.

I literally had to do weights after listening to her interview about 'the tight twelve' on Radio NZ. In aword, sickening.

Bugger off and get your own damned welfare system then. You're protecting killers in the name of your 'culture'. Bollocks to that.

This chick and her kind make me sick. And the damage she does to Maori is criminal. It puts the Maori Party (thus far, very constructive and measured) in an insidious position.

Step up Maori Elders and denounce this blowhard throw back.

Please.

Thank God I'm not short

I had the pleasure of 30 minutes, 100 feet underground, in horrid heat, in a long tin can on the Victoria Line this evening. Bad for me? Yes.

But Gods toe nails did I feel for the poor chick in front of me. At least I had 6 inches of clear air in front of me, not so she. She was face to face with my tie - not more than 1 inch from it.

They love to whine, enjoy a whinge and can see the downside of a Lottery win - but doing that day after day? Awful.

At times, albeit by need, they are hardy folk the Poms.

The game's not for everyone!

Email from back home - lovingly reproduced and unedited (cheers Geez!):
Re the FWC

I am very uneducated in the game we call Soccer (in our house it's a game for pansies - however I'm open to giving it a whirl), also I decided to back the Dingos since they live next to us and we are dead useless at the game so if you can't beat em - join em - anyway they got the arse yesterday over what I call a controversial referee call.

Anyway - watching the Spain/France game this morning, at about the 70 minute mark and some French geezer pushes over a Spanish geezer and then the French guy puts on a hollywood "oh he has hit my face" type of carryon (meanwhile signor from Spain is holding his hands up going "what the f*ck - you can't be serious ref - I didn't do anything!") but yes, the brilliant acting of the Frenchman puts this poor dude in the bin AND then they go and score a goal to be 2-1 up (later on another French goal was scored much easily which indicates they did have the upper hand - but still)
Cheats
I think they should have a TMO for this sort of thing...

I have decided that Soccer is for very talented people and I love the way some score long distance goals, but some of them do deserve an Oscar for their acting ability. Could you imagine Fitzy? He'd go over and punch him, or worse still, Richard Loe would poke his eyes out for being such a woos.

Some do have hot bodies - there are a few calendars ciculating around the ladies email systems - woof - don't mind if I do.

So I guess I'll have to now support England, only as you do Frit - that guy Wayne Rooney seems a bit arrogant if you ask me - I reckon Fitzy would put him quickly in his place.
Well, quite!

About bloody time

From Stuff:
Police bring family in for interviews
28 June 2006
By MARTIN KAY

Family members of the murdered Kahui twins – including their mother – have succumbed to public pressure and met detectives, as three government departments begin inquiries into the case.

After a standoff between police and the family that lasted more than a week, officers went to homes occupied by the twins' mother, Macsyne King, and other relatives and escorted them to Mangere police station for interviews.
I'm all for respecting people's customs and culture - but this is a murder case is it not? A couple of charges of obstructing a Police investigation might not go a miss.

Oh Brother, where art thou?

Nuff said, MJD - let me know a good time to call!

Forgive me for rubbing it in

But I got a brochure from Ma today outlining our cruise and I'm starting to get well excited! Our dingy is pictured below - not shabby! But the highlight is the ports we cover in just 12 nights - check this:

No dithering here!

I finally got to the Doctor today and registered with the NHS. The registration was relatively painless - the actual consultation less so.

You see, I was in the slightly dubious position of trying to tell this chap that I needed an operation urgently (preferably before my holiday with Ma to reduce one handed typing time at work) - all well and good.

Doctor: 'So when did this injury occur?'. 'Around Feburary/March' I replied as quick as a flash (coughing '2005' under my breath). 'I'm sorry' said he - 'so am I' said me. He could not quite believe it. But half an hour later he gave in.

'Have you had any other similar injuries?' The question may have been standard enough - but I seized the opportunity to cut short this inquisition. 'Um, well. Dislocated my knee a couple of times. Screwed my back in a car accident. Oh, snapped ligaments in that ankle year before last. Collar bone when about 14. Oh, and fairly chronic RSI in arms. Other than that - can't think of anything just now'.

Blss him - he couldn't get me out of there quick enough. Referral in hand I made my leave. So on current form - should be under the knife sometime in 2007.

Winston, in a word or three hundred

Matthew Hooton, in the Sunday Star Times, does a nice little character assasination of our 'Minister of Foreign Affairs (that Phil Goff is not already looking after)'. Full article is here - Peters CV. The summary;
Peters has given Ngati Wai a story with which to inspire their mokopuna: the young man who went to university and built an extraordinary CV - deputy prime minister, Treasurer, foreign minister and Maori affairs minister. But let us hope they do not ruin it by delving into the detail: that he is all CV and no substance.

With a quarter century in parliament, Peters has spent just four years as a minister, with each spell more ridiculous than the one before. He has no great achievements. And even if he again brings down the government, goes back into opposition and survives in 2008, like Sisyphus, what will have been the point of rolling the stone up the hill yet again?
Hard to argue with that.

Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!

Finance have moved in next door - in of itself - not an issue.

They needed somewhere to put a fax, I selflessly offer up a space in front of my desk - bad move.

One finance brick, lets call him Mr Burns, has just spent the better part of half an hour bent over the damned thing right in front of me. Huffing and puffing, randomly pressing buttons, looking over his shoulder (try looking straight ahead for the expression on my face if you want 'feedback' pal). He even held the piece of paper up to the light FFS!

Seriously - it was like watching a dope head kerplunk tournament.

It is one thing to be hopeless; I thrive on it and hence tend to attract a support crew quite beyond my real needs - but to be bad at being hopeless is inexcusable.

Happy Days - I'm an England Fan!

England have qualified top of their group and avoided Germany in the next round! Excellent news all round and a good day to be British and an English supporter!
